David Jaraiz
David Jaraiz - biography : This Vancouver-based Canadian artist’s practice is characterized by a sustained exploration of enlarged ocular forms, which recur as a central visual motif throughout his work. His figures often merge human and insect-like characteristics, producing a hybrid imagery that situates the body within a surreal and symbolic framework. Influenced by experiences of motherhood and coupledom, the artist examines themes of femininity, intimacy, and relational interdependence. Working primarily in oil and acrylic, he employs a bright, cubist-inspired visual language to investigate emotional states associated with love, care, and coexistence. Through this approach, his work seeks to uncover aesthetic value within strangeness and to articulate meaningful connections within the unfamiliar.
